What Does Organic, Non-GMO Coffee Actually Mean?

Walk down any coffee aisle and you'll see the words organic, Non-GMO, and specialty. They're worth understanding, because they describe how your coffee was grown before it ever reached the roaster.

What "certified organic" means

Organic coffee is grown without synthetic pesticides or synthetic fertilizers. To carry the USDA Organic seal, a farm has to be inspected and certified by an independent, USDA-accredited organization. Cats & Cosby Coffee is USDA Organic, certified by CCOF.

What "Non-GMO" means

Non-GMO means the beans come from plants that haven't been genetically engineered. Cats & Cosby Coffee is Non-GMO, so what's in your cup is coffee as the plant grew it.

Why altitude and soil matter

Our beans are grown at high altitude in rich volcanic soil. Slower-growing high-altitude beans tend to develop more complex flavor. That's part of why this coffee is naturally chocolaty, with notes of milk chocolate, honey, caramel and cocoa, and why it's low in acidity with a clean finish.

100% Arabica

Arabica beans are prized for their smooth, balanced flavor. Cats & Cosby Coffee is 100% Arabica, with no filler and no blends of lower-grade beans.

Roasted fresh

We roast to order in small batches, so your bag arrives fresh. Grow it right, roast it fresh, and the difference shows in the cup.
